Coaching Corner: The four agreements
By Marilou Butcher Roth, Master Coach
Some of you may already be familiar with this book, The Four Agreements, by Don Miguel Ruiz. Recently, we have been doing a book study on it and I thought I would share the agreements listed in the book with you.
The first agreement is: Be Impeccable With Your Word. This may sound easy, and it can be -- it takes me to how we must make clear agreements and then keep them. Sometimes, that is easier said than done!
The second agreement is: Don’t Take Anything Personally. Now there’s a show stopper! It is so easy to take someone else’s actions, mood and words personally. When you can step back and just notice, you will find far more ease in your world!
The third agreement is: Don’t Make Assumptions. This is one of my favorites as those of you who read my blog regularly will know. We all have done this - assume something based upon a look or a gesture or a mood. Stop! Check it out! You know what they say about assuming! :)
The fourth agreement is: Always Do Your Best. Again, we may think we are doing our best, and perhaps we are. Take some time this week to really look at this one. Being present will help tremendously.
So there they are -- simple, and yet not. You may want to focus on one at a time to get into the depth of these very important agreements. Enjoy!
