Coaching Corner: Give me a "C!"
By Marilou Butcher Roth, Master Coach
Often times, during the course of a coaching week, I will see a theme bubble up among my clients, and this week proved to be one of those times. The overwhelming topic that continued to come up was around clarity -- or should I say lack of clarity.
Numerous discussions were around situations where there were no clear agreements, or assumptions were being drawn based upon the alleged tone of a text, as well as other situations. Let’s just stick with the first two.
We are in an industry, and a life actually, where agreements have become extremely sloppy. When we do not clarify our agreements, expectations will rear their ugly little heads bringing the hope of both parties that things “should” go a certain way. And, don’t go hiding behind the masterful technology of texting. That brings up problem #2 -- interpreting inflections and meanings by the tiny little words being conveyed electronically.
Do you have any idea how many misunderstandings might be averted merely by creating clear agreements and by clear communication on our devices?
This week, let’s hear it for clarity in whatever we are participating in. You may find that you are the culprit, and if not, you may need to check out what you are assuming to be true.
C - L - A - R - I - T - Y !!! Throw those pom poms in the air and give a cheer!!!
