The Ohio REALTORS® Broker Summit brings together brokers, managers, and owners from around the state to network, and address important issues and market trends impacting real estate.  You’ll gain insight into key business strategies and best practices for running your brokerage.  As the government and courts scrutinize the structure of agent and broker compensation, now is the time for brokers to discuss how to prepare for this massive potential shift in our industry.  Don’t miss this important annual event – register TODAY!

Join us for a Networking Reception from 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm on Monday, October 23rd – the evening before our program (included with registration).  We offer our popular Brokerage Management: Understanding Your Responsibilities 3-hour required course on October 23rd from 1:00 pm – 4:15 pm (separate registration required).  Come in early and build meaningful connections with fellow Brokers!

Broker Summit Agenda

Tuesday, October 24, 2023
9:00 am to 4:15 pm

AGENDA

9:00 am – 10:00 am        The Coming Storm and the Aftermath - Rob Hahn, Founder & Managing Partner, 7ds Associates

Always provocative yet thoughtful Rob Hahn will share his thoughts on the state of real estate brokerage.  He’ll dive into the three major commission lawsuits underway today to consider their impact on real estate and what brokerages can do in response.  What is the likely outcome of these cases at trial and what do the settlements mean?  Could NAR and the industry settle these cases once and for all?  Where is the DOJ and the FTC on all this?  What are the most important steps for brokers and agents to take to prepare?  What does real estate look like 10 years after these cases?

10:00 am – 10:45 am      The State of Real Estate: Tracking Market and Industry Changes - Dr. Lisa Sturtevant, Chief Economist, Bright MLS

Bright MLS Chief Economist Dr. Lisa Sturtevant will provide a candid look at what lies ahead for the U.S. real estate industry in 2024.  Sturtevant will not only provide analysis of current economic and housing market trends, but also will discuss changes in the broader real estate sector that will impact brokerages in the year ahead and beyond.

10:45 am – 11:15 am      Refreshment Break w/Program Sponsors

11:15 am – 12:15 pm      The Principles of Profit: This is No Time to ‘Practice’ Real Estate - Pam Ermen

More than ever, Brokers and Owners must be sensitive to the changing landscape of the real estate industry, highly sensitive to how those changes will affect their daily business and profitability.  In this fast-paced session, we'll discuss industry shifts, challenges and competitive strategies regarding space and services, in addition to recent legal challenges created by possible class action suit(s) that could re-define the protocol and use of buyer agency as we know it and impact the bottom-line profitability of your business.

12:15 pm – 1:15 pm        Networking Luncheon & Sponsor Roundtable

Our lunch time session will encourage attendees to share best practices and challenges and generate solutions with their colleagues.  Visit with our program sponsors to learn how their programs & services will help increase efficiencies and your bottom line.

1:15 pm – 2:00 pm          Talent Attraction in Action - Pam Ermen

Agents in today's real estate industry revolution are leaving comfort to seek leadership that understands the challenging landscape.  Are you that leader?  Discover 5 focus areas that MUST be on your radar screen: their technology filter; providing an interdependent culture of trust and transparency; social savvy; delivering relevant training that rocks; and offering market-sensitive financial programs.  Join us to learn recruiting strategies to bring them in the door and then KEEP them there!

2:00 pm – 3:00 pm          Surviving an ODRE Broker Compliance Audit - ODRE Superintendent Daphne Hawk, Kimberley Wells, ODRE Division Counsel, and Shannon Drawns, ODRE Enforcement Chief

This session provides a look "under the hood" at the Division and Commission's enforcement process, as we present a mock broker compliance audit to instruct brokers on what to expect in an audit, how to be prepared, and successful.  We’ll leave plenty of time for Q&A with the Superintendent.

3:00 pm – 3:15 pm          Refreshment Break w/Program Sponsors

3:15 pm – 4:15 pm          AI & Real Estate - Craig Grant

Artificial Intelligence or AI has been around for a long time, but with the emergence of ChatGPT, Jasper, Bard, & others, this area has exploded in options and tools that are being incorporated into these offerings.  In this session, we will explore what AI is, the many ways it can be used in your real estate business and everyday life, the legal & ethical implications, and much more.  By the end of this session, you will be more knowledgeable about this fast-emerging technology to ensure you stay ahead of the curve!

4:15 pm                               Adjourn
