Coaching Corner: Finding your own pace
By Marilou Butcher Roth
Right now, stop where you are and take a deep breath in. Now, do it again and this time count to 6 when you inhale and 6 when you exhale. Ah, now how do you feel? Calmer? More relaxed? From this place, I would like to invite you to find your individual pace, not necessarily the one that you are used to.
One way to find this is to do a little experiment — first find a long hall or open space. Walk really fast...then walk reallllllly slow...then find that completely comfortable pace that feels so good to you. This is your pace!
For years, I thought I was a “hyper†person who naturally moved, talked and operated from a “sped up†place. Luckily, I have found my natural pace and not only do I feel better but I get so much more done than I could imagine. From this place/pace, I am not out ahead of myself, thinking of 20 things I need to be doing. From this pace, I am present with right now and my focus is clear and I feel more ease in my body.
Try it! Enjoy!
