Coaching Corner: What is your wellness level?

Some readers may have already moved on, feeling like discussing wellness is a waste of their time. If you have continued to read, we will indeed be talking about your physical well-being, and how it impacts other areas of your life.

Optimal wellness--how might you describe that for yourself? Everyone will certainly have a different response to this question, which is exactly as it should be. Tune in for a minute to your physical body.

What seems to be working and what doesn't? You may notice some tightness in a certain area--is this just today, or a chronic feeling? How is your energy level? Do you peak in the later part of the morning and then crash in the afternoon? What about sleeping? Are you able to fall asleep easily and sleep through the night? Notice your breathing--do you breathe fully, or just take shallow breaths? Check inward towards your overall mood? Are you finding yourself reacting to even the smallest of upsets?

Take a few minutes to evaluate your physical body, as well as your emotional body, taking note of anything that comes up. Use the above questions as well as anything else that comes up. Write it down! Now, look at the list and determine what changes you would like to experience--write that down as well. Next, create your plan for optimal wellness. Spell this out as specific as you can, by breaking down steps to create a more useful and successful process.

Consider this your wellness plan! When we are experiencing either physical or emotional unease, it impacts every area of our lives--try as we might to compartmentalize, these efforts are largely in vain. We owe it to ourselves to be running at our best level so that our work life, our home life and our own life works at its best!
