Coaching Corner: Telephone game gone wrong!
By "Coach" Marilou Butcher Roth
Some of you may remember the "Telephone Game" -- this is where someone tells the person next to them something to pass on. It could be as simple as a short sentence. Then that person tells the next person, and so on. Inevitably, by the time the last person gets the message, it is quite different than the original statement.
Think about how this plays out in everyday life. Someone tells you something (sometimes in confidence), and you tell “your version†to someone else (often, also in confidence) -- and it continues. These various interpretations of the original story can not only change, but can do so in an extremely detrimental way.
Words...they can be encouraging, cheerful, motivating, and, they can also be hurtful and damaging. Please choose your words carefully. Choose when and what you say, and remember your best guidance is to ask yourself if these same words could be spoken to the person of topic.
Become a person who holds their integrity in the highest of importance! You will be so glad you did!
