Coaching Corner: It's that old book thing again!

For the past two days, there have been a small group of us with the highly important task of interviewing the applicants for the Ohio Association of REALTORS Leadership Academy (OARLA). We had such amazing REALTORS coming before us to explain why they each felt drawn to be part of this exciting Academy. Prior to their interviews, they each had filled out an extensive application which we reviewed prior to speaking to them in person.
There was one application in particular that caught my attention due to the extensive amount of leadership activities this applicant had participated in. In my mind, this applicant was “over qualified†and I was not sure what the appeal was to join OARLA.
Now, keep in mind that my instincts are something that I rely heavily on, and have found them to be a consistently reliable source to obtain insight. Wow! Can I just say that I could have not been more wrong with this applicant! This person was amazing to interview, bringing forth a tremendous amount of humility, openness to learning and vulnerability, all characteristics that play beautifully into the Leadership Academy. Consequently, I was reminded that you cannot judge a book by its cover (or application).
This week, pay attention to how you might jump to judgement that may not be accurate. How often do we decide how someone or something is at first glance. Take the time to make sure that your assumptions are accurate (or not). You too might be pleasantly surprised!!
And, through a lengthy process we chose the 12 incredible REALTORS for the 2017 Class of OARLA!
