Coaching Corner: The power of 10 daily habits
By "Coach" Marilou Butcher Roth
We all have habits, some good, some not so good. Today I want to look at establishing some habits that will support rather than hinder you! For the past few weeks we have been looking at 2016 and what success might look like to you, identifying action steps that will lead you easily to that chosen success. We are going to break this down even further by identifying 10 tasks that you will be performing daily (if you wish) that can assist you on your success journey.
These actions will be items that might appear simple or small -- don't let that fool you! The items you choose will impact how you are living your life. At this point, you are probably wondering what an example might be. Here you go...what about making your bed everyday (unless you already regularly do that). Or, increasing the amount of water you drink? Maybe you only floss your teeth once a day but you want to increase that to twice daily.
I can hear the murmurs from here -- how can flossing your teeth bring me success in 2016???? Think about how you feel when you consistently accomplish something that is important to you. You feel pretty darn good about yourself don't you? So let's connect these dots. You identify 10 tasks (it doesn't have to be exactly 10) that will create a benefit for you in your life. And then...you actually do them. The task itself has its own benefits, and underneath that is an even deeper benefit of how this consistent accomplishment generates more confidence within you!
The action might also be an “in-action,†such as turning off all devices an hour before bed. Or, maybe getting in bed at a reasonable hour if that is an issue for you. Clearly, these are individual to you and need to be habits that when you do them will, in fact, be supportive. And remember, it only takes 21 days of doing something consistently to create a new behavior.
So get out those notepads and get to it!! Enjoy!
