Coaching Corner: Are the current real estate trends making you crazy????
By "Coach" Marilou Butcher Roth
Currently in most areas (if not all) of Ohio, the inventory is low and the buyers are looking and ready to buy. Practically speaking we understand that. Understanding this trend is one part of the equation. The other is what happens for us in navigating our buyers and sellers through the current market conditions.
Markets change -- sometimes we designate more specifically and identify buyers' or sellers' markets. How we counsel our clients will depend on the type of market we are dealing with at any point and time. It would not be uncommon to find your buyer in a multiple offer situation. The demand is high and the supply is low.
Spring is right around the corner and hopefully the snow will be melting. This might shift things and sellers could find their way out of their mental igloos and decide to sell. Or, it might continue as it has been. I am not telling you anything you do not already know.
My questions, however, are about how you react to market trends. Are you finding yourself at the mercy of external circumstances, i.e. market conditions? Do you find yourself complaining to other agents about your inability to find a home for a given buyer? Are you frustrated about the lack of inventory but not doing anything to change that?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, it is time for a little reality check. It is quite easy to get into the mode of “look what is happening to me,†unfortunately, it fails to produce the results that we really want. Take some time right now to develop a plan that is pro-active and generates business. Listings are key -- even more so when the inventory is low. How can you find salable listings? Do you have a consistent plan in place? If not, it is time! Do not fall into a place where whining becomes a staple in your conversations.
You have a choice as to how your business runs. Do you believe me? I hope so -- it will make all the difference! Get to it! :)
