Coaching Corner: The most important list you will ever make
By "Coach" Marilou Butcher Roth
This past week I returned from the annual National Association of REALTORS convention in New Orleans and, as always after an event like this, my mind is saturated with ideas that came from meetings, classes and conversations. One that has my utmost interest at the moment occurred at the Board of Directors meeting.
Two gentlemen received Distinguished Service Awards and each took the stage to receive this very prestigious award. As one of these recipients reflected back on his vastly impressive career in real estate, he fondly remembered one of his early mentors who impressed upon him at an early age to “be the best that you can be each and every day.â€
These are certainly not new words to any of us but I have continued to think about what these words mean for me personally. Although I feel that I continue to take these words to heart, what specifically do they mean? Have they become just words? So, I began to make a mental list of items that I feel, if in place, will bring my best self forward, each and every day.
Today, I encourage you to do the same. What are those items that if they were in place, would bring you to your personal best? Take a few moments, or longer, to give this some thought. You may want to incorporate some specific action, or, it may be a quality that you want to put your attention on. Identify five to 10 of these in writing. Put them in a place where they are obvious to you, keeping in mind that there will be some that occur on a regular basis, and some that organically show up because you have made a commitment to your personal best each day.
Your list may include items specific to business and some that seem more personal. Don't be fooled by this distinction. Whatever you do to improve the quality of your life will spill over into all areas. You are you no matter what aspect of your life you are engaging in! I hope you enjoy this process! I would love to hear thoughts and ideas on this one!
