Coaching Corner: Being good when things aren't!

Coaching Corner: Being good when things aren't!

Dec 1, 2017

By "Coach" Marilou Butcher Roth

This is a particularly challenging "Coaching Corner" for me to write today because if observing my writing from afar, you would find me in my bed, cuddled with my new love, the Kleenex with lotion! I came off of the Thanksgiving adventure geared up and ready to meet my week which was filled with 15 coaching clients, 3 classes to teach and to top it off, a closing. Of all of those mentioned, only one happened! I have been cancelling all week long due to what some might call the flu -- who knows! The real kicker for me is that my voice has been taken from me, only to return for brief periods of time, leaving me with a whisper and sometimes a squeak, depending on the day.

I know, boo hoo, poor me! Yep, I have been there, rolling around in self pity like my grandmother's rolling pin in flour. Feeling lousy was one thing, but no voice!!! -- totally unfair!!

So I reached a moment of resignation, calling the doctor and putting my butt where it probably should have been the whole time.

We all have experiences that are not exactly to our liking (or choosing). It just happens that way sometimes. But how can we make peace with these events that can occur at some point? How can we find perfection in the present moment? Not the easiest answers to find. I can tell you that I have finally let go of resisting this adventure and have focused on taking the best steps to bring myself back to healthy. It took a while for me to get there and when I did, I found that things weren't so bad -- the world wasn't going to abruptly end because I had to cancel a class or a client.

Finding your path to be OK with what is happening will allow you to experience the uncomfortable with more ease. Letting go of how things “should” be, and allowing things to be how they are, will bring you to a more peaceful place.

I almost had decided to skip this week's post, which would have been fine, but my hope is that my experience this week might just be of service to someone else who is having a rough time.

Happy December and see you next week!
