Coaching Corner: Bringing ease to the fine art of agreements
By Marilou Butcher Roth
- Do not make agreements that do not feel right to make.
- If you do make an agreement -- follow through with that agreement.
- If you need to change the agreement, please do!
So many of us choose to make things harder than they need to be -- not consciously, of course. Now let's look at agreements from a perspective of making it hard -- if you are not sure about this, pay attention to drama that is coming up in your life. Might any of it have to do with agreements? Do any of these feel familiar to you?
- Make agreements that you know you really do not want to do, and/or have no intention of following through on.
- You just do not keep the agreement -- no excuses, you just don't do it.
- You know that the agreement will not work for you but somehow do not get around to communicating that change.
I have presented both of these so that you can see the differences clearly. If you want to stay in a place of living in integrity, this will be a crucial piece. Where do you see yourself within these two scenarios? What type(s) of changes do you need to make to allow more ease around making and keeping agreements? What is the next step you need to take to make this happen?
And one final question -- are you willing to bring ease into how you make and keep agreements? Have fun with this one!
