Bold, bright colors can distract potential home buyers while softer, more neutral hues can attract—at least when trying to sell a house. The home remodeling site Fixr.com surveyed more than 60 top home staging and design professionals to uncover the best and worst paint colors to use when selling a home in 2025.
The Worst Interior Paint Colors for Home Buyers in 2025
• Lime green: 73%
• Bold pink: 42%
• Red: 35%
• Purple: 33%
• Bold orange: 30%
• Mustard yellow: 20%
Bold colors are trending in home design. For example, reds and purples are among many of the 2025 Colors of the Year by the leading paint firms. You can still be trendy without overdoing it. Instead of covering the walls in bright or dark colors, home stagers advise reserving them for home accessories—like throw pillows and blankets—or artwork. Used at smaller doses and strategically, these colors actually can be used to draw eyes into a space while not reaching that off-putting level.
For the overall wall color, keep the base neutral, like in soft colors or warm whites, stagers say. Home stagers and designers revealed their favorite paint colors for interiors when selling a home.

Neutrals also appear to reign for the outside, too. Off-white siding colors as well as natural wood rated tops among home stagers and design professionals for the exterior.
