Ohio REALTORS Celebrates Governor’s Signature on Senate Bill 257

Ohio REALTORS® is proud to announce that Senate Bill (SB) 257, important legislation expanding the Ohio Homebuyer Plus Program to include active-duty military personnel who are stationed in Ohio, has been signed by Governor Mike DeWine. This marks a significant victory for Ohio’s housing market and our military families, reinforcing our state’s commitment to supporting homeownership for those who serve our country.
During the last weeks of the General Assembly, Ohio REALTORS® submitted testimony to the House Economic and Workforce Development Committee in support of this bill, highlighting its importance and value for service members and the broader housing market.
The Ohio Homebuyer Plus Program launched in January and has already made a significant impact by allowing over 19,000 Ohioans to open tax-favored savings accounts with above-market interest rates. In his testimony, Ohio REALTORS® CEO Scott Williams shared:
Expanding eligibility of the Ohio Homebuyer Plus Program to active-duty military personnel stationed in Ohio is paramount in honoring their commitment to our country and providing them with the opportunity to establish roots in our communities. We encourage military personnel to pursue homeownership in the state and support their use of affordability measures offered by the program. Owning a home is one of the most secure ways to build generational wealth that can be leveraged later in life or passed on to family, and we want to ensure that our military personnel have equal access to this opportunity.
