Coaching Corner: Time Wasters
By Master Coach Marilou Butcher Roth
Undoubtedly, there are countless ways that we can waste time, some more prevalent than others. Today, I want to address just a few instances where we can completely derail ourselves.
First, how often do you get caught up in what others may think of you? When we put ourselves at the mercy of what others think, we can find ourselves in a bit of a pickle. We must, at all costs, have the self-awareness to navigate the waters of other people and their opinions. Consider it an invitation to learn to be kinder to yourself, finding ways daily to know and honor YOU! Basically, you have absolutely no control over what others may think of you, and you do have control over what you think of yourself!
Secondly, think about how much time and energy you give to thoughts and possibly regrets from the past. Again, we have no control at this point over what has already happened. We can, however, use what we have learned to make our present-day decisions. Some people allow themselves to ruminate over days gone by, conjuring up the dismal feelings that may ensue. When we are mentally in the past or the future, we deprive ourselves of the magic of our present.
Today, notice if any of these time-wasting thoughts creep in. If so, take yourself (without judgment) into your present moment! Enjoy the gift of your present!
