Coaching Corner: Boo!
By Master Coach Marilou Butcher Roth
Next week is Halloween, and I am reminded of a Halloween years ago when we were all accommodating the intricacies of COVID. Many of my clients were experiencing a state of underlying discontent due to those circumstances. Seriously, it seemed to be a year of the biblical plagues, virus, fires, hurricanes and killer hornets!
Each of us handle and experience these types of events differently. The key here is to be aware of how you personally move through these challenges, having the awareness of being angry or fighting off that nagging fear that may bubble up.
You may be familiar with my words and not find any of this information terribly new; however, whether you have heard this from me before, or this is your first time, it bears repeating. Paying attention to what is happening for you is at the heart of being an emotionally intelligent human, and is extremely important.
If you notice that you are snapping at your loved ones, or feeling like you are on edge, please pay attention. It may appear that you are edgy and angry, and I invite you to delve just a bit deeper to uncover either sadness or fear, which hides nicely behind anger. Here’s the cool part - you do not have to do anything with what you discover. When you can acknowledge what is truly happening within yourself, the grip it has on you loosens, even if only a little.
Don’t be afraid to look - no tricks here!!
