Legislation Modernizing Electronic Records and Conveyances Passes Statehouse
Senate Bill (SB) 94 has passed the Ohio House of Representatives after several weeks of deliberation in the House Finance Committee. This legislation will modernize electronic records and conveyances maintained by county recorders across Ohio, ensuring significant improvements in access to these critical documents.
Ohio REALTORS® provided proponent testimony on this important bill during both the House and Senate committee processes, sharing that “by creating an online system to record and access documents in all 88 counties, future efforts to view these documents will be faster and more convenient.”
As Ohio REALTORS® historically have opposed any fees, taxes, or surcharges that increase costs of ownership, their testimony voiced appreciation of the sponsors’ being mindful of this and limiting the document preservation surcharge in the bill to not exceed $5. This surcharge will support the digitization and ongoing preservation of records, which is necessary for adjusting to the needs of the digital age.
The legislation will now be sent to Governor DeWine for his signature.
