Coaching Corner: 10 daily habits
By Marilou Butcher Roth
It is so easy for us to get caught up in reacting to events that present themselves, and sometimes we need to just go back to the basics. Identify 10 -- no more than 10 -- items that you want to make sure you accomplish on a daily basis. These items are individually yours and may seem trite in comparison to some of the other lists you put together. These are actions that if taken, will generate a stronger personal foundation for you.
Years ago, I found it challenging to get my bed made -- I would be up and out without looking back. I found this old habit to be annoying and honestly I did not like the way it felt to get into an unmade bed at night! Trite, you say! Absolutely not! In developing my individual "10 Daily Habits," I added making my bed to my list and within a very short time, this became a habit that has stuck with me over the years.
Another great example for some people might be to drink water instead of pop (or soda, depending on your geographic location). Or, maybe, you do drink some water but not enough. Our bodies require and respond to water intake -- are you taking in enough?
Other items I have seen with clients are stretching, or reading each morning. Some have chosen to plan out their meals daily to ensure proper nutrition. I think you get the idea.
These are all on a personal level which strengthen your foundation immediately. You can also implement this system for your business to strengthen your professional foundation as well. Create a list for yourself and then find a way to track these habits -- you may like a spreadsheet or using index cards, whatever works for you.
