Youngstown Columbiana Association hosts 'Celebration of Fair Housing' event
The Youngstown Columbiana Association of REALTORS (YCAR) hosted a "Celebration of Fair Housing" event at its office on April 18, the culmination of a multi-faceted effort to showcase the importance of the Fair Housing Act and its impact on creating better communities.
YCAR, which received a $7,500 grant from the National Association of REALTORS for its celebration activities, hosted a banner design contest for art students at a local high school. The winning banner design, created by Dimitra Coutris, is displayed on the Board's garage wall. Coutris was presented with a $100 check for her efforts. In addition, YCAR presented a check to Boardman Local School officials that will be used for iPads and thumb drives for art students to further their art education in creating digital artwork and media.
"REALTORS recognize the significance of the Fair Housing Act and reaffirm our commitment to upholding these laws and to offering fair, equitable service to every American in their search for homes and property," said YCAR's 2023 President Michael Stevens.
Earlier this year, YCAR Chief Executive Officer Julie Larson gave an educational presentation to Boardman High School art students about the Fair Housing Act and the role REALTORS have in upholding its principles. Students were invited to participate in a banner contest, which attracted 45 entries.
NAR offers grants to state and local associations in an effort to boost awareness of Fair Housing and protect housing rights throughout the country.
