Coaching Corner: The four agreements
By Marilou Butcher Roth, Master Coach
You may already be familiar with the book, The Four Agreements, by Don Miguel Ruiz. The information contained in this book is something each of us can benefit from on a daily basis. Here is a breakdown of these agreements:
The first agreement is: Be Impeccable With Your Word. This may sound easy, and it can be. It takes me to how we must make clear agreements and then keep them. Sometimes, that is easier said than done!
The second agreement is: Don’t Take Anything Personally. Now there’s a show stopper! It is so easy to take someone else’s actions, moods and words personally. When you can step back and just notice, without judgment, you will find far more ease in your world.
The third agreement is: Don’t Make Assumptions. This is one of my favorites. We have all done this at one time or another -- assume something based upon a look or a gesture or a mood. Stop! Check it out! You know what they say about assuming! ?
The fourth agreement is: Always Do Your Best. We may think we are doing our best, and perhaps we are. Give this one some thought, being present in each moment will help you with this one.
So there they are -- simple, and yet not. You may want to focus on one at a time to get into the depth of these very important agreements.
