Coaching Corner: Are you feeling vibrant?
by Marilou Butcher Roth, Master Coach
Lately I have noticed that my energy has been somewhat down from where I usually am. One of my personal intentions is to live from a place of vibrance, although there are times, such as now, when I need to refocus on that intention.
What does living from a place of vibrance mean to you? It might be that you prefer another word or phrase that fits better--how about aliveness? Or you may have another that works even better. The definition that I found for vibrance was, “the state of being full of energy and life.” Ahh, now doesn’t that sound wonderful?
How would your individual life be different if you lived in ‘the state of being full of energy and life’? How would your professional life benefit? And, what about your personal relationships? It's easy to answer that life would indeed be better all the way around, and yet how do you create the vibrance you are seeking?
I believe there are several components to this endeavor, beginning with your mindset--deciding that living your life from a place of vibrance is key to this process! You may even begin with the following commitment: “I commit to living my life in a state of vibrance.” Say it aloud and notice how you feel, keeping in mind that you do not have to know how all of this will work. Make the commitment and know that you may need to recommit from time-to-time.
Next, decide how to move your body on a regular basis. You know what they say: move it or lose it! Find something that you want to do, because if you don’t want to do it, chances are it won’t happen. Incorporate deep breathing into this practice, making sure you are taking full breaths, not only with your movement of choice, but throughout the day. We as a society are shallow breathers and to achieve the full benefit of oxygen, we need to bring breath throughout our whole bodies!
Now, take a look at your relationships. Are you harboring resentments from the past? Is your communication where you want it to be? Do you have things left unsaid? Clean up anything that is keeping you from full loving relationships.
What about the foods you ingest? Notice which foods tend to bring you down and which foods, when eaten allow you to feel lighter.
Keep your brain active! I love one of my morning rituals of doing the two New York Times crossword puzzles, along with the Spelling Bee. It gets my brain ready for my day. There isn’t any right or wrong here, find something that you like that stimulates your brain cells. Another fun one is to do your normal activities (i.e. brushing your teeth) with your non-dominant hand. It will definitely get your brain going.
None of this needs to be hard or even terribly time consuming. It does, however, need to be consistent. Today, find those ways of enhancing your own vibrance!
