Coaching Corner: Go find your crayons!
By Marilou Butcher Roth, Master Coach
For years, creativity has been an important part of my life. Yes, of course, I write, and yet there is so much more. I have found that not just my writing, but expressing myself creatively in other areas, keeps me clear and focused. Creativity can show up in countless ways -- one of my other favorites is cooking. As I got a little more curious, I decided to explore a bit more on why creativity enhances our lives. This is what I found:
- Creativity helps you see the big picture
- Creativity helps motivate you
- Creativity helps with problem solving
- Creativity can make you more productive
- Creativity boosts your confidence
- Creativity helps clarify your thoughts and feelings
- Creativity lets you express yourself
- Creativity brings people together
- Creativity relieves stress
- Creativity can help you live longer
So, you may be asking yourself what you might do to bring about this wonderful creativity! There are lots of options, and, no right or wrong ones. First and foremost, give yourself the permission to have fun with this. What do you want to do?
If you have an interest in doing something artsy, you can jump in immediately. There are now adult coloring books out there that are quite fun. Did you ever find yourself doodling during a class? Well, this is actually a thing. Get yourself a sketchbook and some crayons and/or markers and go to it. There are countless easy classes available for all types of art. My husband and I took a water color class for six weeks that was a blast!
This is just one direction. Another very simple idea is to totally switch up your routines. Drive different ways to places you always go, brush your teeth with your non dominant hand, etc. Now its time for you to generate your own ideas -- make a list of as many items that you can think of. Have fun with the list and your action of choice!
