Ohio REALTORS selected as 2020 REALTOR Safety Grant recipient
Ohio REALTORS was recently named by the National Association of REALTORS as one of 20 recipients of a 2020 REALTOR Safety Reimbursement Grant.
This year, Ohio REALTORS has instituted a Local Board Safety Initiative, whereby the organization is making grants available to Local Boards to conduct safety awareness training session/programs. To date, the following safety programs have been approved:
- Akron Cleveland Association -- offering Real Estate Matters: Safe Business = Smart Business as part of its Lunchtime Success Series;
- Beaver Creek Area Association -- hosting a REALTOR safety class;
- Cincinnati Area Board -- hosting a safety awareness day featuring an expert on cyber-security, as well as a keynote by Carl Carter Jr., son of Beverly Carter, on ways to stay safe when showing houses;
- Mansfield Association -- holding a full-day safety workshop;
- Marietta Board -- hosting a presentation with the city's Police Chief;
- Northwest Ohio -- offers its members FOREWARN, a safety app, at no cost. The app helps positively identify 80 percent of prospective buyers -- everything from criminal records to vehicle/property ownership -- to conduct showings with a higher level of confidence;
- Stark County Association -- conducting an interactive safety class;
- Wayne Holmes Association -- hosting a safety training class in coordination with the local police department.
Additionally, Ohio REALTORS will host international safety experts Debbie and Mike Gardner at our 2020 Annual Convention & Expo, Sept. 21-23 in Cleveland, whom will empower attendees with simple “can-do” prevention, defense, and crisis control strategies.
"Ohio REALTORS is proud to have been selected as recipient of a 2020 REALTOR Safety Reimbursement Grant from the National Association of REALTORS in support of these initiatives, as it's imperative that we help our members work smart and stay safe," said Ohio REALTORS President Chris Reese.
The goal of the NAR Safety Program Reimbursement Grant is to provide funding assistance to state and local REALTOR Associations to help implement a Safety Program or feature for their members, and to encourage ongoing awareness of REALTOR Safety. The Safety Grant must be used to fund projects that will keep safety awareness top of mind for REALTORS and Association staff. Grant applications were scored in a blind, multi-step, Association-wide review process.
