Ohio REALTORS announces expansion of efforts to curb opioid epidemic
Ohio REALTORS, in partnership with the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services, will be distributing over 6,000 drug disposal bags across Ohio to Local REALTOR Associations.
In 2019, Ohio REALTORS and the Ohio Opioid Education Alliance partnered to supply drug disposal bags to Local Associations and members as a result of reports that open houses were being targeted to steal pills from sellers’ medicine cabinets. These drug disposal bags safely destroy prescription drugs so that they cannot be misused. The bags are provided to sellers prior to an open house so that unused prescription drugs can be removed from circulation before falling into misuse.
Beginning June 4, Local Association Executives can apply for up to 300 drug disposal bags on a first-come, first-serve basis. From there, Local Associations will have discretion in how the bags are distributed to members, with the ultimate goal of eliminating unused prescription opioids from circulation.
