Coaching Corner: Your NAR committee application -- Own It!!!
By "Coach" Marilou Butcher Roth
For the past two weeks we have been discussing the in’s and out’s of applying for a position on a NAR committee. This is a process that has been confusing for some in the past, and our desire, as the Ohio REALTORS NAR Strategy Committee is to remove any and all confusion and to create a smooth and easy path for you to follow! So let’s take this to the next level…..
By now, you have hopefully read through the descriptions of committee opportunities at NAR. If not, please take the time and explore your options. Once you have done that, ask yourself the following questions:
- When you look at the committee descriptions, which one(s) excite you?
- Is there anything in your experience that would lend itself to any of these committees? And…make sure it still excites you!
- Why do you want to participate in the committees that you have identified? It may be the actual topic, or, it may be how you feel it impacts the industry. It may also be that you see it as a stepping stone to future leadership roles. The key here is to be clear with yourself!
Ohio REALTORS and NAR encourage you to seek endorsements for all your committee applications after you submit your application. Instructions are available on NAR’s website. Suggestions for endorsements might be your local or state leadership, current members of NAR committees (including chairs and vice chairs), your local or state AE, state past presidents, as examples. When you are seeking endorsements, please allow an adequate amount of time for the person to make the recommendation -- do not wait until the day before the deadline.
In filling out the application itself, make sure your grammar and spelling are correct and everything is filled out.
If you want to be sure to receive future emails from Ohio REALTORS with tips, application information, etc., or would like a list of NAR committees broken down by “Group”, please email Debbie Dillon.
